Backyard Math
About
Learn what Backyard Math is and how these homeowner project estimators are intended to be used.
Simple planning tools for outdoor projects
Backyard Math was created to help homeowners, DIYers, gardeners, and weekend project planners estimate materials for common outdoor projects.
Whether you are planning a fire pit, building raised garden beds, installing a patio, spreading mulch, ordering gravel, filling low spots with topsoil, or estimating concrete, these tools are designed to give you a quick starting point before you buy materials.
The goal is simple: help you spend less time doing math and more time making progress on your project.
How the calculators work
The calculators use standard area, volume, coverage, and unit conversion formulas. Many tools also include optional overage to account for waste, uneven ground, settling, breakage, cuts, and measuring differences.
For the most accurate estimate, always use your actual project measurements and product specifications from your local supplier.
Important note
Backyard Math provides estimates for planning purposes only. The calculators are not a substitute for professional advice, engineering guidance, local code requirements, product instructions, or contractor recommendations.
